Jinan, Shandong, China, September 03, 2010 - Pericom Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: PSEM), a leading supplier of high-speed connectivity, timing and signal-conditioning silicon and quartz solutions, today demonstrates its IC and FCP(Frequency Control Product) products  aimed at supporting the PCI Express (PCIe) and USB serial protocols and Timing. These products will be part of live demonstrations in Sep. 03-05, at booth #111 of Jinan International Exhibition and Convention Center, Jinan, Shandong, China. 
 
Heading the list of demonstrations is an industry first multi-protocol PCIe to USB2.0 host controller bridge plus PCIe packet switch - I7C9X442SL Swidge, and is dubbed the SwidgeTM (combination of bridge and switch), and includes a second PCIe-to-USB 2.0 host controller only version. Two USB Sleep-and-Charge USB charging switches round out the demonstrations as well. In addition to the cutting-edge IC products, all of Pericom’s FCP product families, including the latest small size crystal series, are also demonstrated in the exhibition time.

With Pericom’s PowerSaveTM advanced power management technology,  the PI7C9X442SL Swidge is an industry first PCIe 1.0-to-4 port USB 2.0 host controller + 2 port PCIe 1.0 packet switch, and is offered in a space saving 14x14mm 128TQFP package. This dual protocol IC allows designers to gain back and expand valuable PCIe ports that are used for expansion or conversion. The PI7C9X440SL is similar but does not offer the downstream PCIe ports for USB 2.0 host controller optimized applications.
Two Pericom Sleep-and-Charge family of USB 2.0/3.0 USB charger controllers are demonstrated in the exhibition. They are the PI5USB58 and PI5USB2058. The benefit to the end user is that the Pericom Sleep-and-Charge family allows the NB to remain in ‘sleep’ or power down mode and still provide safe and reliable charging through the USB port. Both the USB charger products contain Pericom's patent-pending PowerNapTM technology to reliably charge even when the notebook is in sleep mode, providing notebook designers with an advanced, low-cost mobile device charging solutions.  Those two products are available in the small footprint packages. The 3x3mm 16-TQFN package is for the PI5USB58 and the 3.5x4.5mm 20-TQFN package is for the PI5USB2058.
All of Pericom’s FCP product families and the latest miniature crystal UW/FS/US series products are showcased in the three-day show.  2.0x1.6mm UW series crystals are designed to be compatible to ultra-thin electronic devices with strict limit for the height of crystals.  The 1.6x1.2mm FS/US series crystal quartzes are the smallest products within Pericom’s FCP product lines. The FS series devices are available in a standard package.  The US series devices are ultra-thin and offer the lowest height for compatibility with small, ultra-thin devices. The height of UW and US series products is only 0.3mm. These compact crystals are ideal for surface mounting in densely populated or small form-factor PCB applications, such as WiFi SiP module, Bluetooth headset and Mobile payment.

Pericom Semiconductor Opens New Timing Products Facility in Shandong Province, China

Key government officials and supply partners from around the world join                       in the Grand Opening of the new ‘state of the art’ factory

Jinan, China – April 09, 2010 – Pericom Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: PSEM), a worldwide preferred supplier of products for timing, signal conditioning and connectivity, today held the grand opening ceremony and campus tour for its new crystal factory for their Frequency Control Products (FCP) – PSE Technology (Shandong) Corporation located in the hi-tech zone of Jinan, Shandong, China.

Alex Hui, CEO of Pericom Semiconductor Corporation, and Shujong Cheng, president of SaRonix-eCera Corporation and PSE Technology (Shandong) Corporation, presided over the ceremonies and were joined by other Pericom executives. Many honored Chinese government officials were in attendance, including leaders from Shandong province, as well as executives from Chinese government committees. Pericom’s valued partners and suppliers from US, Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong were among the 200 guests to join the celebrations.

The overall crystal and oscillator market is growing from $2.8 billion in 2009 (USD)  to $3.1 billion (USD) in 2010 (CY2009-CY2010 Crystal & Oscillator Report from CS&A, LLC). A particularly fast growth segment is driven by the more complex timing requirements of serial high speed protocols such as PCI Express 2.0 (5Gb/s) and 3.0 (8Gb/s), USB3 (5 Gb/s), SATA3 and SAS2 (6Gb/s), and others requiring a more precise low-jitter timing source. Pericom offers advanced timing solutions for all these protocols.

The new factory represents a total investment that will reach $30 Million (USD) and 2 years of construction to completion. Built from the ground up as a state-of-the-art production facility, the PSE factory and employee campus will be able to support Pericom and SaRonix-eCera for crystal and crystal oscillator production and reinforce their service level in the Asian market, in particular the China market. Pericom’s Taiwan SaRonix-eCera factory is currently among the top 3 crystal suppliers in Taiwan. The new Shandong facility will significantly increase Pericom’s.  total production capacity. This will offer increased flexibility in production planning and will reduce shipping lead-time for improved service to Pericom customers. Pericom’s vertical integration with SaRonix-eCera uniquely provides total timing solutions based on both quartz and silicon, resulting in optimal cost and performance for the customer.
